The Statue of St. Andrew is found in Carmel
Street, Luqa. It dates back to 1877 and withstood several World War II attacks.
The statue was paid for by Mr. Pietru
Azzopardi who was a procurator for Good Friday in1878. All the designs were
drawn by Architect Andre Vassallo who also worked on the sculpture of the
pedestal. Restoration on the statue was done by the Restoration Directorate
under the Local Council Restoration Scheme 2016. Workers from the Directorate
cleaned the statue to remove any unsound render as well as powdering that was
present on the surface. Structural consolidation, stone replacement, plastic
repair and extensive repointed were all done during the restoration process.
The statue was then repainted in oil-based paint as a protective layer.
